About US
Both of us were both brought up in
traditional Catholic families where faith and church were important
parts of our upbringing. Over some period of time in our own personal
lives , we had each left our Catholic faith for awhile and, in our
search for deeper answers, we each came back to the Church with more
love and zeal than before.
Our journey together began at our mutual friends’
wedding. Living across the country from one another (Phil in VT and Sue
in MN) our friendship grew. We found music and faith to be a central
part of our relationship. After moving back to Massachusetts (where Phil
grew up) we got married, and began our ministry together in the
Southeastern New England area.
In addition to our LIFE TEEN involvement, as well
as our own individual free-lance musical efforts (Sue has a private
piano studio and is a freelance accompanist/Phil plays for various
contemporary instrumental groups), we are the Music Directors at St.
Aidan's Parish in Cumberland, RI.
We have two older children living on their own,
and two younger children still at home, who also love to sing and play
the piano.
Phil Fortin is a graduate of the Berklee
College of Music and NPM's Pastoral Liturgy Institute. He's been a
performer, arranger, director, composer and record producer in various
jazz, pop, Christian and liturgical settings for over 20 years. Over
that time he's performed with a number of well-known artists including
Marty Haugen, Donna Peña, Michael Joncas, Jesse Manibusan, Tom Kendzia,
Dana Scallon, and Vince Ambrosetti.
Sue Fortin has a BA in music education from
Iowa State University and an MA in piano performance from Northwestern
University. She's performed as a piano soloist and accompanist for 20+
years, touring internationally with the Minnetonka Children's Chamber
Choir and as a soloist with the Minnetonka Symphony Orchestra in
Minneapolis. Sue has been involved in liturgical and worship music as
music director, organist and children's choir director and currently
teaches music at a parochial elementary school in Attleboro, MA.
